The article linked above talks about Gantt charts! A Gantt chart is basically a calendar that lets you plan out the timeline of a project. While working on the project, you can compare your progress to the schedule that you set up on the Gantt chart. This chart will essentially include what exactly you will be doing over certain periods of time during the timeline of the whole project.

A situation where someone might want to use a Gantt chart is if they are participating in robotics, and they have to build a robot for a competition. Building a robot requires a lot of research and brainstorming ideas, making the robot in a CAD software, physically constructing the robot, then testing the robot. Someone who is building a robot might decide to use a Gantt chart to put all of these tasks into one large calendar so that you can hold yourself accountable and finish the project on time.

Additionally, a Gantt chart is even more useful when you have to do several DIFFERENT tasks for a project. Think about the robotics example I just said; you need to research, test, build, CAD, code, and do all of that. Most of the time in robotics, you cannot move onto the next stage without completing the previous. For instance, it would be very hard to test the robot if you haven’t actually built it. Therefore, a Gantt chart is useful when there are many different things you need to do to complete the project.
